Following on from our Naace ICT Mark aware in July 2016, we are proud to announce that we have now been designated as an ICT Centre of Excellence. This involves us working collaboratively with the Bromsgrove-based Catshill Learning Partnerships and offering training courses to teachers and ICT leaders from across the West Midlands. These courses will cover a range of aspects from the Computing curriculum and will be run by our members of staff or trainers from Catshill. This is an exciting venture for Westacre Middle School, which we hope will develop provision for ICT across our region, as well as help us develop further what we offer to our own pupils through dialogue and sharing of ideas with other schools and experts in the field.
The first training course at Westacre in our role of ICT Centre of Excellence took place on the 1st of December 2016. It was a course aimed at local middle schools and looked at ways of using the new BBC Microbit computers to enhance the provision in Key Stage 3 Computing. We welcomed nine delegates from schools across Worcestershire and Brett Laniosh from the Catshill Learning Partnership.
The course itself was a great success. Mrs Underhill, our Year 7 Computing teacher, attended the course, meaning our pupils will benefit. As well as this, the other teachers in attendance left full of ideas to take back to their schools in Redditch, Bromsgrove, Malvern and across the county!
