Super 6 Athletics Competition, Droitwich High School - 19th May

This athletics competition was made up of 6 girls and 6 boys who had to perform a track, throws and relay events. The competition was open to Year 8's but this did not stop the Westacre Athletics team from giving their maximum effort! This resulted in some noteworthy placings which included Macey Perrings coming 1st in her race! Well done, Westacre! Great Effort!

Year 7 Sportshall Athletics Finals, University of Worcester - 7th March

With the Year 7 boys successfully making it through to the Worcestershire Sportshall Athletics regional finals, the boys were ready to give it their all to achieve a medal. The young athletes trained hard leading up to the competition which involved events such as the 2 lap race, relay race, shot put and triple jump, to name a few.

Pulling up to the venue, held at the University of Worcester, the boys were filled with both excitement and nervousness. They understood the enormous task that lay ahead of them.

As each boy was called upon to go to their event, the boys were at the sideline cheering for their teammate to perform at their best. It was evident that all of the hard work had paid off when it was announced that our school had come 3rd place! Well done boys for getting bronze medals!

Year 7 Sportshall Indoor Athletics  - Christopher Whitehead Language College , Worcester  Friday 9th December

Teams of boys and girls from year 7 travelled to CWLC to compete in the preliminary round of sportshall athletics .

This event requires the athletes to compete in both track and field events ranging from shot and Standing triple jumps to 4x2 lap relays and 8 lap parlauf .

The competition was very close all the way through the afternoon but nobody could have predicted how close it was actually going to be when all results were counted up.

Girls   5th Tudor Grange 99pts    4th Westacre 116 pts   2nd = Blessed Edward / Christopher Whitehead 122pts  1st Bishop Perowne  133pts

In the boys event , when totalled up Westacre and Christopher Whitehead were equal , this meant looking at second place finishes , we were still equal , third place finishes , still equal . They had to count back as far as the number of fourth place finishes to seperate the 2 schools and thankfully we were announced winners .

Boys  5th Tudor Grange 99pts    4th Blessed Edward  104     3rd  Bishop Perowne  122      2nd Christopher Whitehead   136

           1st   Westacre 136pts.

The boys will now go forward to represent Droitwich and Worcester City at the Worcestershire Winter Games to be held at University of Worcester on 5th March 2017.

A big well done to all the athletes who took part , you were a credit to yourselves and the school .

Year 7 Boys Indoor '5 a side' Football   -  South Bromsgrove High School  Tuesday 6th December

The team played exceptionally well during the tournament and didn't lose a single game . Unfortunately they missed out on becoming overall winners by 1 point . This was due to drawing 2 matches and the eventual winners Aston Fields winning 4 of their games which gave them 12 points to our 11 .

Results   Alvechurch won 2-0         Aston Fields  won 4-1    Witton  drew 0-0      St Johns  won 3-0      Parkside  drew 0-0

The boys should be really proud of their performance throughout the tournament and look forward to the next competition with the will to go one better .

Year 6 Football versus Catshill Middle   17th November .

This was a very closely contested match with both sides playing expansive football and eager to attack at every opportunity . Westacre had a number of chances in the first half and only good goalkeeping kept Catshill from going behind .

The second half continued in the same vein with both teams having numerous shots on goal , with both goalkeepers in excellent form . Unfortunately our luck ran out and Catshill managed to sneak the vital first goal . Westacre continued to press the opposition goal but with no reward . This pressure allowed Catshill to counter attack and take the game beyond our reach with their second .

A great team performance and man of the match goes to Mattie for an excellent display in goal .

Year 5

It has been an exciting time in PE for year 5 this half term. They have taken part in: Zumba, creating some great battle dances; hockey, learning how to dribble and pass with control; fitness, building their stamina; dance, creating a pirate dance ready to showcase. Videos and pictures to follow shortly.

Sports Day

A massive well done to all pupils who took part in the school sports day Thursday 7th July. All of your efforts whether in running, throwing or jumping scored points towards your house. It was fantastic to see a lot of competitive performances during the day as well as the fun events which provided a lot of humour and laughs.

Bell Boating

Well done to all the pupils from both years 5 and 6 who survived their bell boating sessions. Despite the weather which ranged from torrential rain to brilliant sunshine they all appeared to enjoy the experience. Many thanks to teachers and support staff for making this event happen and to the children for being so enthusiastic.

Street Dance

Congratulations to the Yr 6 and 7 pupils who represented Westacre at the Droitwich Schools Pyramid Dance Festival held at Droitwich Spa High School on Thursday 30th June They have been attending rehearsals on Wednesdays with Star Dance and performed a street dance entitiled ‘One Dance’. On the day they performed their routine to other first schools from the Pyramid and also watched a soloist and group dance by students from the High School. Well done to all those who took part.

Sailing

Our Sailing team have been a real credit to themselves and our school over the last couple of months. They have spent time after school every week over at Upton Warren practising their skills. This culminated in the annual Worcestershire Schools' Sailing and Canoeing Association Regatta. Of course, we are proud of the entire team for representing school so well, but we give a special mention to Archie in Year 5, whose performance earned him the Pico Shield!

SPORT RELIEF

A massive thank you and well done to all those pupils who came to school on Friday in sports kit and contributed to this extremely worthwhile fund raising cause.

An extra special thank you goes to to Isla and her mum for baking the wonderful football themed cake which raised £18.50 in the raffle which was won by Annie. This money together with the rest of the days activities managed to raise a whooping £450.00 . A fantastic result .

It was so good to see you all enjoying the lunchtime activities which were being run by the year 7 House captains , sports captains , playground leaders and a number of extra volunteers. Thank you to all of you for manning the events so well.

In the afternoon we held our fun run and again it was so nice to see all the school take part including a number of the teachers who dare I say it were looking a little red in the face by the end !!

Below are just a few of the photos taken during the day , look carefully and you may just find yourself in them .

Again a very big thank you to everyone for taking part and congratulations on the amount of money raised which will be divided between Sport Relief and our own Astro Turf project in school.

  • Worcestershire Winter School Games

    CHAMPIONS ! CHAMPIONS ! CHAMPIONS ! CHAMPIONS !

As mentioned earlier in the term our boys' sportshall athletics team were due to represent Worcester City and Droitwich at the above games finals . These games bring together all the winning teams from around Herfordshire and Worcestershire in a fantastic day of competition .

Despite the disruption of having to make a late replacement with Will Allen coming in to the team the boys performed magnificently all afternoon , putting in a huge amount of energy and commitment to all their events .

Notable results included Harry Wilesmith and Will Allen both achieving 1st place in their respective 4 lap race and the 4 x 2 lap relay team of Harry Wilesmith , Luke Winsper , Luke Payne and Will Allen again achieving 1st place .

In this type of competition you really don't know where you are placed until the very end as there are field events going on as well as the track events and all the scores are collated together.

Our excellent results on the track combined with high placings in the numerous field events gave us a final score of 156 points which meant we had won the competiton by a margin of 4 points from Woodrush High School in second place and Bredon Hill Middle School in third place .

A massive well done to each member of the team whose behaviour was excellent all afternoon , were a credit to themselves and the school, were a pleasure to be with and who are now county champions.

Team consisted of Harry Wilesmith, Brad Eversham , Callum Dunn , Jake Clews , Luke Payne , Luke Winsper , James Hemer and Will Allen .

Bromsgrove School Invitational Swimming Relays

Congratulations to the U11 boys swimming relay squad who represented our school at the championships held at Sansome Walk Swimming Pool on Monday 29th February .

The team consisted of Rowan Dennett , James Rushton , William Hughes and Harvey Bastock.

They competed in two relay formats ; a medley relay where each member swims a different stroke and a freestyle relay where each member swims front crawl . The team successfully reached both 'A' finals where they were up against very strong opposition from schools such as Kings St Albans  Worcester , Monkton School , Bromsgrove School , Dragon School  Oxford , Warwick School and Nottingham High School.

In the medley relay final the team secured a very credible 4th place in a time of 1.17.88 which was just 7 secs off the record held by Bromsgrove School and in the freestyle relay the team finished in 6th place in a time of 1.08.56 which was just 6 secs off the record again held by Bromsgrove School .

The boys were a credit to themselves and school and should be very proud of what they achieved .

Year 6 Premier League Schools Football Finals

A big well done to our year 6 football team who recently competed in the Premier League Schools '6 a side' Tournament Finals held at the University of Worcester .

Within their group matches they unfortunately lost the opening game 0-3 to a well drilled team from Stanley Road Primary School , Worcester . However this did not dampen the spirit of the boys and as the tournament progressed the team began to play with more confidence .

In their next match they came up against local rivals St Josephs Roman Catholic and although going behind early in the match battled back to earn a well deserved draw 1-1.

We needed some results from other matches to go our way to help us proceed into the quarter finals but unfortunately this was out of our control and we went into our last match with the chance of progressing further gone .

However the team saved their best for the last , playing with confidence and passion defeating Powick Primary School 2-0 .

This meant we finished in third position in our group with 7 points just 1 point behind the top 2 schools;  Stanley Road and St Josephs.

Team consisted of Morgan Hughes , Finley Simpson , Joe Faulkner , Jack Harris , Miles Troth , Daniel Court , Jack Price and Jonathon Rogers ( year 5 )
