As your head of year, I couldn't let the opportunity pass to say a HUGE WELL DONE to all of you in Year 5 for your super attitudes to learning. It looks as though a lot of you have been really creative over the last two weeks.
We are looking forward to receiving your j2e Easter Around the World homework after the holidays and are hoping lots of you join the Times Tables Rock Star Battle (Come on 5JR!) while enjoying lots of reading time too.
It has really lifted our spirits to see your great pictures and smiling faces. Mrs Underhill's Video certainly helped us all to reconnect in true Westacre style today. We are missing you all and wish you and your families good health and a very Happy Easter
Look out for our next update and new tasks to get stuck into on Monday April 20th
Mrs Riddleston.
Good morning Year 5 and happy Friday! Another fantastic week of home learning, we really are impressed by how hard you are all working. As well as today's home learning tasks, make sure you have a look at the Easter homework we have set for you. This week in my house we've put down the salad and picked up the cake as we've been making a Victorian Sponge for my Mum's birthday!
Speaking of baking, it looks like Year 5 are giving me a run for my money with their skills. Check out Balint's Victorian Sponge and Chocolate Brownie (which he's promised to make for 5CD when we're back), and Alfie H who has taken time out from working hard at his Maths to make yummy Banana Bread with chocolate chips.
'Home' Non-Uniform Day
Under normal circumstances, today the house with highest points earned would be enjoying a non-uniform day. The highest scoring house for this Spring term (and it kills me to say this being a member of Turing) were Attenborough. Well done Attenborough house! However, as a special one off, we are inviting you ALL to wear your house colours and send in a photo so Mrs U can compile them for the #chasetherainbow movement.
Friday Mentions
My Mum was not the only person with a birthday to celebrate recently. From all the staff in Year 5, we would like to wish a big happy birthday for last week to Jaz N-S in 5RM and for this week Riley M in 5MK. Also, an early happy birthday to Elliot F and Callum P in 5MK who will be celebrating their birthdays over the Easter holidays. Hope you all had/have a super birthday! Twitter shout outs this week go to Jacob A in my class who has been working hard on MyMaths and Archie T in 5JR who has been doing his home learning alongside his cat.
Westacre Well-being
We love our Yoga at Westacre so I'm excited to tell you that Miss Starkey is doing a yoga video for us every 2 weeks. Please click on the following link below for the first lesson, which you and family members can get involved with over Easter:
If you haven't had chance yet, please head on over to the Well-being page where Miss Colledge is not only putting up tasty food recipes, but is also posting weekly interviews with one lucky staff member! A great way to find out to find out what us teachers are getting up to.
Finally, below you'll find a link to the Wind in the Willows West End production which I believe is streaming online for free! Something for you and your family to enjoy. Have a great Easter Year 5!
DAILY UPDATE THURSDAY 2nd APRIL
HAPPY THURSDAY Rockers! Bluebell Bannon here – or should I say, Mrs Underhill!
Hope you’re all well, and staying safe. I’m loving seeing all the tweets and emails come in with photos and examples of work. You’ve all been working SO hard! Well done. Make sure you also make time to relax, be mindful and spend time with your family. Well done to Sam (5JR) for colouring posters for the Nightingale Hospital - a lovely thought.
I’ve been checking the rockin’ stats this week. Totals for the last battle were:
CD- 17,857
MK – 15,012
AU – 12,727
RM – 6449
JR – 5,674
Well done to 5CD!!
The leader board of pupils in school shows 5 Year 5s in the top 20….. drum roll (or massive guitar riff!) for Freya in MK, Aidan and Arlowe in AU, Alfie A in RM and Tom in AU. Well done.
A new battle has been set up – which will be for the Easter holiday (3rd April – 19th April). Rock on, dudes!
THURSDAY SHOUT -OUTS
I’m so pleased that you’ve been listening to me reading Revolt on Alpha-C (shared to year 5 on J2e). Agatha, I couldn’t find just one book I wanted to read, so started with that one, perhaps you'll get into it. Louie- I’m delighted you’ve enjoyed it! Look out for chapter 2 next …..!
Well done to Jessica in 5AU for her DT cooking- chocolate cakes (Mrs Underhill’s favourite!) Poppy in 5CD for her animal quiz – we all tried to answer the questions and not cheat, Poppy! Penelope in 5JR for being inspired to grow some seedlings – definite green fingers there, Penelope! To Agatha in 5JR for her presentation on forces (through the medium of dance!) with the help of her assistants – brilliant. To Evie (5AU) and Charlie (5RM) for their presentation videos- I loved them! And finally (for today!) Kaiden in 5JR for recording his own PE fitness video for his family. I think Mr McMullen and Mr Dinsley might have a bit of competition there!
Emily in 5AU has been sharing a story of her own on J2e. I’ve attached the front cover and first few paragraphs…. It makes for scary and confusing reading! Is anyone else writing stories – do send them in!
Wellbeing at Westacre PHOTO
Remember to send in your wellbeing photos (to office@westacre.worcs.sch.uk) for the pastoral staff and they can be added to the wellbeing page of the website.
REMEMBER!
On Friday, we would like ALL children to wear their house colours and send a photograph in...we shall then compile these to show the Westacre community as a rainbow of hope at this difficult time.
Wednesday 1st April – your daily update, from Mrs Murray

Miss Kelly's Daily Update
Good morning Year 5.
I hope you all had a lovely weekend, definitely took a bit of a cold turn and I spent most of mine painting the fence in our garden. How fun! It’s been so good to see so many of you completing the home learning and sending your pictures our way.
Apologies if there’s anyone I have missed. Please keep on sending in what you have been doing, it’s brilliant to hear from you all.
Obviously you are all waiting apprehensively to see how Miss Kelly’s new class are getting on. Unfortunately, it has been extremely difficult to make them sit still and to engage in the curriculum but I am sure we will get there.
Looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you all again soon! Take care.
Miss Kelly

Mrs Riddleston's Update
Good Morning Year 5! I hope you have all enjoyed a happy and healthy weekend with your families. We were soooo impressed with your great start to learning at home.
My friend Em has already seen some of her seeds beginning to grow that she planted last week and we have seen a lot of growth in your positive attitudes to learning too. You have really made productive new beginnings.
Another new beginning to announce is the start of our Communication Week, that we always enjoy and celebrate at the end of each week of the school term. This is a great opportunity to practise and perfect our spoken language and how we express ourselves. The tasks that we put on the Other Curriculum Updates this week will be linked to this.
Hello from the Pastoral Team
Mrs Darby, Mrs Brownlee, Miss Colledge and Mrs Singh wanted to send their best wishes to you all and have asked us to tell you about their Well Being updates, you can find them on the pupil tab - Westacre wellbeing -weekly updates.
Mrs Phillips also has a library page ( on the Curriculum - English page) She will be mentioning those children who have been taking quizzes. Her dog Piglet has decided she wants to take part so she is now a virtual librarian and will be setting challenges for you to earn 'Piglet Paw Points'
Check the OTHER LEARNING DOCUMENTS for our new Maths, English & other Curriculum task to work on each day.
Keep all your lovely messages and super examples of hard work coming in!
Take care of each other
