Safeguarding at Westacre

Westacre Middle School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and we expect all staff, governors, volunteers and visitors to share this commitment.

We aim to provide a safe, supportive environment in which pupils feel listened to, valued and confident to speak to a trusted adult if they are worried about themselves or someone else.

All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training and are expected to remain alert to signs that a child may need help, support or protection. This includes concerns relating to abuse, neglect, exploitation, online safety and changes in a pupil’s behaviour, wellbeing or attendance. Any safeguarding concern is reported promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or a member of the safeguarding team.

Our safeguarding procedures are informed by Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026, Working Together to Safeguard Children and the procedures of the Worcestershire Safeguarding Children Partnership.

Where appropriate, we work closely with parents and carers and with other agencies to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. There may be occasions when information needs to be shared or a referral made without first speaking to parents or carers, particularly where doing so could place a child at greater risk or compromise their safety.

If we believe a child is at immediate risk of harm, we will take appropriate action without delay.
