Inclusion at Westacre

At Westacre Middle School, every child belongs.

We are committed to creating an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious school community where every pupil is known, valued and supported to flourish. We recognise that children have different strengths, experiences and needs, and we work hard to remove barriers so that all pupils can participate fully in school life and achieve their potential.

Inclusion is everyone’s responsibility. Through high-quality adaptive teaching, strong pastoral support, early identification of need and close partnership with families and external professionals, we aim to provide the right support at the right time.

We want every child, including those with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and those experiencing additional challenges, to feel safe, respected and successful. We celebrate difference, promote belonging and ensure that pupils have a voice in the decisions that affect them.

Our ambition is simple: every child included, every child supported and every child given the opportunity to thrive.

Westacre is celebrating a major achievement after being awarded Flagship status for Inclusion through the respected Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) assessment process. The accolade follows a recent rigorous assessment visit and recognises the school's strong commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive environment where every child is valued and able to thrive.

According to the IQM website, Flagship schools are, "exceptional schools that have successfully maintained their Centre of excellence status for over three years.

These schools demonstrate inclusive practice in every aspect of school life, act as leaders in the sector, and contribute to educational research and innovation. The assessment report praised the culture and ethos evident throughout the school. It noted that, "staff are committed to making Westacre an inviting, attractive and a safe and happy place where children want to be."

Inspectors also highlighted the strong sense of belonging within the school community. The report continued to recognise the positive atmosphere experienced by pupils and visitors alike, describing Westacre as a, "very caring, fair, structured and happy environment," where, "children are encouraged to feel important, needed and valued at school."

We are delighted to have been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark in recognition of the school’s commitment to providing the very best education for all children. After another visit from the IQM assessor, we have received a fantastic report accrediting Westacre as a Centre of Excellence for inclusion.
