Behaviour and positive relationships at Westacre

At Westacre, we are committed to providing a calm, safe and happy environment where every child can learn, thrive and achieve their full potential. We promote high standards of behaviour through clear expectations, positive relationships and consistent routines.

Good behaviour, effort and positive choices are recognised and celebrated. When pupils make poor choices, staff respond promptly and fairly, helping them to understand the impact of their actions, put things right and make better choices in the future.

We aim to develop confident, responsible and respectful young people who understand that their choices affect both themselves and others. Our approach is underpinned by our school values, which promote respect, resilience, positive relationships, self-esteem and a strong sense of belonging.

Recognising and Celebrating Positive Behaviour

We expect, recognise and reward positive behaviour, effort and achievement across the school. This includes:

• Pupils contribute to clear class expectations and routines.

• All pupils and adults treat one another with respect through their words and actions.

• Explicit teaching of our school values and expectations for positive behaviour.

• Regular verbal praise and the use of positive language in classrooms.

• Recognition of effort, progress and achievement in pupils' work.

• Our 6R reward system, with achievements recorded and celebrated through bronze, silver, gold and platinum awards.

• Our House system, which encourages teamwork, participation and a sense of shared achievement.

• Pupils share excellent work and achievements with Class Teachers, Heads of Year, Subject Leaders and members of SLT.

• Roll of Honour recognition in year-group assemblies.

• Positive communication with families through planners, telephone calls, postcards and other celebrations.

• Special recognition opportunities, including the 100 Club.

We always celebrate success, effort and positive contribution.

Responding to Behaviour Concerns

Our Behaviour Policy sets out a clear and consistent approach when pupils do not meet our expectations. Consequences are proportionate and are used alongside support, reflection and restorative approaches.

Our emphasis is always on helping pupils to understand what has happened, repair relationships where necessary, learn from the situation and make positive choices moving forward.
