    Wellbeing, Mental Health and Pastoral Support

    At Westacre Middle School, we believe that positive wellbeing and mental health are essential to helping every child feel safe, happy and ready to learn.

    Our dedicated pastoral team works alongside pupils, families and staff to provide support when children are experiencing difficulties, as well as helping all pupils develop the skills they need to manage challenges and build resilience.

    We aim to help pupils become confident young people who can:

    • recognise and talk about their feelings;

    • ask for help when they need it;

    • develop positive coping strategies;

    • manage worries, stress and difficult situations;

    • build positive relationships;

    • develop confidence, self-esteem and resilience; and

    • solve problems and make positive choices.

    Pastoral Support at Westacre

    Pupils can access a range of pastoral support and targeted interventions depending on their individual needs. This may include support with emotional wellbeing, friendships, bereavement, anxiety, self-esteem, attendance, family difficulties or other circumstances that may be affecting their wellbeing or learning.

    Our aim is to provide the right support at the right time, helping pupils develop strategies that will support them both now and in the future.

    We work hard to ensure that children feel listened to, valued and emotionally safe. When pupils feel secure and supported, they are better able to engage with learning, build positive relationships and participate fully in school life.

    Where a pupil requires additional or specialist support, we work closely with families and, where appropriate, other professionals and services.
