Safeguarding and Inclusion

Westacre Middle school is committed to Safeguarding and ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of every child. It is only when these needs are addressed that children can fully access opportunities and fulfil their potential. At Westacre, we are proud of our commitment to the education of the whole child and meeting the needs of all individual pupils. Our focus as a school is to enable all children to achieve their best and be happy independent learners.

We recognise that during their time at school, children may need additional help or support for a short or longer period of time. This help may be needed for many reasons, including behavioural, social and emotional support and access to learning support.  In light of this, we have an Inclusion Team who are able to support children to ensure they are confident and resilient learners, can access the curriculum, make good progress and realise their full potential. This includes supporting children identified as ‘more able.’   To ensure that we can meet our children’s individual needs as quickly and effectively as possible, our Inclusion Team encompasses a wide array of roles and responsibilities.

We are delighted to have be awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark in recognition of the school’s commitment to provide the very best education for all children. After another visit from the IQM assessor we have received a fantastic report accrediting Westacre as a Centre of Excellence for inclusion.

Some of the findings from the report were as follows:

“Westacre stands out as a beacon of academic excellence and holistic education, committed to nurturing the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of its students. With a dedicated team of educators, a supportive school environment, and a commitment to well-rounded development, students are empowered to reach their full potential and become responsible, engaged responsible citizens”

“Leaders prioritise academic excellence, ensuring that students receive a rigorous and engaging curriculum that aligns with national standards. Through a comprehensive range of subjects, including English, mathematics, science, humanities, and technology, students gain a deep understanding of various disciplines and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.”

“Beyond academic rigor, the school recognises the importance of a well-rounded education. The school actively promotes extracurricular activities, offering a diverse range of clubs and events that cater to students' diverse interests and talents.”

Definition of inclusion:

Inclusion is an ongoing process that celebrates diversity and involves the

identification and minimising of barriers to learning and participation that may be

experienced by any pupils, irrespective of age, ability, gender, ethnicity, language and

social and social background, and the maximising of resources to reduce these

barriers.
