Art and Mind is an intervention designed for creative children who would benefit from support focusing on their emotions. The group joins together to create art, share thoughts and ideas with the group and discuss managing emotions that they find difficult.
The intervention lasts six weeks. The first week consists of the group getting to know one another and creating a piece called 'Feelings I would like to throw away' -this is an exercise which helps the children focus on the emotions they find most difficult to understand or manage. This activity is often a simple way for children to identify triggers and learn coping mechanisms to manage their emotions in the future.
The following weeks involve spending time creating 'Paint Monsters,' 'The Worry Brain' and motivational bookmarks. These are all pieces which we hope the children will enjoy making and keeping for the future.
