September

Friday 27th September- our 6R winners this week.

Assembly Friday 20th September

We started assembly listening to a story book selected by Mrs Bird. What a quiet start to assembly!

We then reflected on our value of the month- Belonging. We talked about all the different ways we can belong. Some of the year group belong to Guides, Tennis club, football groups and of course our families.

Author visit

The amazing British Nigerian author Tola Okogwu visited our school and spent time with Year 7. We discussed her experiences growing up in Nigeria and later Britain, Superheroes and their powers, learnt about real-life superheroes like Nelson Mandela and we even tried to become Superheroes. We also learnt about Onyeka, the main character in her book series Onyeka. What we learnt overall was that something that feels like a weakness like hair that you’re embarrassed of, can be your superpower.

In Humanities, year 7 are looking at chronology. Today, we looked at a range of resources and discussed their relevance to conflict. The children were fascinated and so curious about the different time periods and facts. We created a timeline then, selecting our favourite resource.

7AU today had a session in the library with Mrs Burton. We talked about book levels and ensuring we are choosing quality texts as well as a book of our choice to take home. We then selected books- some from the year 7 only bookshelf.

In science, year 7 are exploring the science laboratory and new equipment. Over the coming terms, they will familiarise themselves with how equipment should be used safely, and conducting experiments. Today, they identified and labelled apparatus, then found where it belongs in the lab so we can tidy away safely.

Exploring primary and secondary sources in Humanities

In PE lessons our focus has been coaching and leadership skills.

Welcome Back Year 7
