At Westacre Middle School, we embrace the fact that every child is different therefore the educational need of every child is different; this is certainly the case for children with Special Educational Needs.  We at Westacre Middle School are committed to meeting the special educational needs of pupils and ensuring that they make progress.

In line with our school vision, ‘Inspire. Challenge. Achieve’ is what we aim to achieve every day. Westacre Middle School is a fully inclusive school, which strives to ensures that all pupils achieve their potential; personally, socially, emotionally and academically in all areas of the curriculum, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, social background, religion, sexual identity, physical ability or educational need.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils, which has been developed to reflect inclusion.  We achieve this through setting suitable learning challenges, responding to pupils' diverse learning needs and overcoming barriers to learning and assessment.  Our curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of different children, and where necessary, a bespoke curriculum may be provided in order for individuals or groups of children to thrive.

Our school's SEN co-ordinator (SENCO) is Miss L Brighton. She can be contacted via our school telephone number 01905 772795.

In addition to our SENCo, we have additional teachers (Mrs Ardis supporting Year 6, and Mrs Kirkby supporting Year 5), to support children with their specific needs. Mrs Ardis has the additional responsibility of overseeing children who have been diagnosed with Dyslexia or are displaying dyslexic traits. This includes working alongside our SENCO to support the pupils with specific equipment such as laptops, iPads, overlays, tracking guides as well as strategies to assist them in the classroom, as well as developing their awareness of their own strengths.
