It was great to invite year 3 to our school to take part in football activities lead by our sports leaders. The leaders themselves found out what it was like to coach younger children and really thrived in supporting and encouraging them.
A few of our sports leaders had the fantastic opportunity to be kit carriers for the athletes at the Alexander Stadium. They were amazing and had the best time.
Olivia asked to set up her own hockey club. This is now going to run every Thursday lunchtime.
It has been lovely to give the opportunity for some of talented gymnasts across school to help our Sports Leaders with a Year 1 Gymnastics Festival. Our first schools developing their skills are Cutnall Green and Chawson.
In the afternoon we welcomed Westlands and Ombersley.
The Sports Leaders delivered an assembly to the whole school to show who they were and how everyone can share their ideas with them. In each classroom, there is a poster and suggestion slip to share activity ideas.
It was wonderful to welcome year 3 children from Westlands to our first festival. This was a football theme and was purely lead by our Sports Leaders and selected Sports Crew members. The field was filled with fun and skills. The younger children developed their confidence playing football and our leaders enjoyed the chance to share their coaching skills. Hart said how much he enjoyed teaching the little ones and Mason said it made him feel happy to see the difference he had made.
As there were so many amazing applications, we now have a Sports Crew who support the Sports Leavers to deliver activities at break and lunch times. Our training consisted of a discussion around their PE lessons, where they have been learning how to be leaders. From this, they then planned their own playground games to teach to the rest of the group.
The Sports Leaders had their first round of training at Stourport Sports Club. In this training, they discussed the qualities of a good sports leaders and some of their ideas they have for the year. This all links to the School Games values and the festivals with which they support throughout the school year.
The girls are very excited to receive some new football resources so that they can play together. During break and lunchtimes, the girls in year 7 will be allowed to play on the grass by the MUGA so that they can develop their skills with confidence. Keep an eye out for further events coming soon.
