Nessy is a reading and spelling computer programme designed to help students of all abilities learn to read, write and spell especially those who learn differently. It has been developed specifically for children with dyslexia. It is a huge programme with over 100 lessons packed with video strategies, motivating games as well as worksheets. It starts with a spelling and reading assessment that identifies where children need help and then guides them through targeted lessons. When they have achieved those targets they will take another assessment and will be given another five targets. Children work through the ‘islands’ developing their reading and spelling skills as well as having fun.
Nessy is run for 15 minutes every day and a typical week would be three sessions on the computer programme, one session with individual worksheets and one session a spelling test and new words to learn.
The ultimate aim for the children is to develop their spelling skills and strategies so that they can use these competently and confidently in the classroom.
