Group 2 - Mrs Adey

The Fabulous Group 2

Group 2- Louise, Rosie, Elsie, Lilia, Elspeth, Harlow, Ruby, Kayla, William K, Harry W, Roman and Harry B

Monday

Everyone jumped straight into the first activity, giving 100%. We got on the harnesses, grabbed a hard hat and walked down to the High All Aboard-a tall pole with a platform on the top. The aim was to climb the pole ( which was quite wobbly as we went higher!) Elsie, Harry B, Roman, Elspeth, Harlow, Ruby, Harry W were all like spider man-straight to the top! Lilia impressed herself and us by getting higher than she initially thought she could. It was tricky, but we loved the challenge.

Next... more climbing, but this time we were indoors. First of all, we bouldered around the bottom of the climbing walls then it was time to climb high! Harlow and Rosie raced to the top on the auto-belay- it was very close contest! Then whilst one person climbed, the rest of their group had to belay to keep them safe. Great team work from group 2-what a fabulous first morning! Everyone was definitely ready for their lunch.

After enjoying lunch and catching up with our friends, it was time for a dip! With the sun shining, we splished and splashed with group 1. Will and Roman were Olympic gold medal standard-Zogg catchers, Kayla impressed us by sitting on the bottom of the pool and Elspeth, Harlow and Ruby practised their synchronised swimming skills.

Following a quick drying off and changing session, we went off to laser tag-group 1 v group 2! The ultimate match. Louise and Elsie discovered their inner soldiers. We charged through the woods defending our bases and trying to capture the other team's flag. Tactics were discussed. Battles were lost. Battles were won! But ultimately we were all winners!

Tuesday

After a very tasty breakfast, group 2 headed off on our first adventure of the day. The sun shone down on us as we got on the safety gear ready for abseiling. Everyone made it to the top of the tower. The scariest part was leaning back over the edge, but facing our fears made us feel very proud (once we had made it back down on the ground). Some of us even had more goes including Elsie, who initially was reluctant but then was desperate for extra turns. Well done team 2-great resilience!

Next up, we kept our feet firmly on the ground with archery. First, we listened to and watched a demonstration about how to we keep ourselves and others safe and learned how to load an arrow and fire a bow. Then, it was time to put the advice into practise. We helped each other with the arm guards and then aimed at the target. On Lilia’s second go …bulls eye! But occasionally, we had to put in a team effort to find some arrows which had gone astray. Finally, we finished our archery session with a team game-the cutlery game. We got into teams of 3 or 4. Elsie scored in the yellow zone, meaning her team were the winners!

After lunch, we were back in the air again! This time we went zipping through the air on the dual zip wire. With a partner, we zoomed a supersonic speed through the beautiful Blackwell countryside. Some of us had so many goes that we lost count!

Then after our aerobatic antics, we went off to stack crates. This involved working as a team to build the highest possible tower of crates for a trio to balance on. Rosie, Elsie and Kayla stacked 10 crates.  Ruby, Harlow and Harry B (with a little extra help from stacking supremos Roman and Will) stacked 11. Roman, Will and Harry W stacked 14 crates on their first go, but managed a magnificent 15 on their second attempt! Their team work was exemplary.

Wednesday

What a morning-beautiful blue skies and sunshine. After packing up (our teachers werevery impressed by how organised we were) and a delicious breakfast of pancakes, we were off to take on the challenge of the fan descender-a free-fall jump from the top of a 10 metre tall pole with a fan to slow your descent. We had some very elegant landings on our feet and some not so elegant landings. A special mention goes out to Lilia, who really pushed herself by climbing a little higher each time and on her third try climbed to the top and jumped! Great team work again group 2 because although it was an individual activity, everybody encouraged each other.

Next up was Tree Trek. We climbed over rope bridges, up scramble nets and through tyres to reach the zip wire at the end, where we ended with a flourish.

Thank you for a fantastic three days group 2. Every one of the instructors praised your politeness and resilience. You should be very proud of yourselves-you are amazing young people. I hope you have challenged yourselves, laughed and made memories with friends old and new. 5 star review for you all!
