Group 6- Maicey, Logan, Bobby, Kelsi, Charlie, Jack, Clara, William N, Corbyn, Olivia, Mason and Eli
Group 6 had a fabulous start to our Blackwell adventure with our first activity: Treetops. Everyone had a go climbing high up along ropes until we reached the speedy zipline
Corbyn said, "We are flying!"
Our second activity was a complete contrast - archery. After learning the basics, Mason smashed it with a bullseye - which proved to the group that you may find one activity more challenging but can shine in the next! Kelsi was best overall and won the group competition.
After lunch, we swiftly moved onto abseil with Jack proving that he can abseil at super speeds. Everyone had more than one go.
Finally more action the sky with 'high all aboard'. Clara, Olivia and Maicey all made it onto the high platform and lastly we all watched an epic platform tussle between Logan and Eli...which resulted in a close win for Eli.
More adventures for everyone tomorrow!
Tuesday
After a good nights sleep (for most!) we all headed off for a very hearty breakfast of bacon, sausages, beans and toast to set us up for the day.
Group 6 made their way to Fan Descender which was the first activity of the day! We had to climb up an extremely tall pole and then leap off the edge…if you dared! Nearly everyone had a go, some people climbing half way up and others getting to the top. As confidence grew, Clara, Maicey and Kelsi used their gymnastic skills to create some amazing poses on the way down. Jack again showed his speedy skills by climbing the pole in 29 secs with Kelsi a close second with 30 secs. Mason and Logan did very well and climbed over half way with lots of encouragement from below. Eli climbed the descender over 10 times..it was one of his favourite activities! Olivia was very nervous for her first go and then went up over 5 times..what a star! Bobby faced his fear of heights and went on the descender 3 times…well done Bobby. It was lovely to see all the children encouraging each other with climbing the pole.
Next, we went to indoor climbing where we learnt to boulder along the bottom and then climb to the top. Everyone had a good attempt at climbing the wall. it was lovely to see everyone supporting the climbers with ‘hold’ ideas. A special mention to Logan and Mason who climbed over half way even though it was their first time. Also, Will and Charlie who used all their skills and determination to climb to the top. Corbyn climbed the most challenging wall and even though he said ‘i can’t do it’ he got to the top..fantastic!
After a very busy morning group 6 were looking forward to lunch.
After lunch, the sun came out and we had a wonderful 1 1/2 hour swim in the pool. We had lots of fun, swimming, playing ball and just splashing around.
A quick change got us ready for Laser Tag in super quick time. We were divided into two groups…group 6 were the red team. The first game was Team Death Match which the red team won Go Reds! Second team game was a draw! The decider was the game Catching the Flag…the winning team had to capture the opposing teams flag. The blue team won! Overall, the 3 highly contested games ended up in a draw!
Fantastic end to our Tuesday but more to follow this evening.
Our final day, had everyone sleeping in a little but longer and then a mad dash to pack and be ready for breakfast…pancakes today. The sun was shining, cloudless, blue skies which was a perfect start to the day.
Our first activity was ‘Giant Zip wire’ . There were 2 very long zip wires which meant that we all had lots of goes some children went over 10 times…even though it was a long walk back. It was “the funest thing i’ve done” “amazing” “exhilarating” are a selection of the comments.
Our final activity was ‘Crate Stack”. Which involved stacking crates as high as they could before they fell. The westacre record was 15 which unleashed the competitor in group 6. Kelsi and Cara managed to stack 14 crates and Jack and Corbyn stacked 16 smashing the Westacre record. Eveyone else made a valiant effort.
What a three days it has been. I have really enjoyed being the leader of group 6 and I can’t praise the children highly enough. Everyone had a go at every single activity and tried their best. They were 100% supportive of each other….encouraging and helping when necessary.
I hope everyone enjoyed Blackwell as much as I did.
