Outdoor learning was absolutely amazing! We got to go out and choose the activities based on what we wanted to do, and we decided that we should build shelters out of sticks, ropes, waterproof sheets and plastic bottles. It required lots of teamwork, resilience, reflection and reasoning to put them together, because we needed to decide on the ideal spot to build them, collect the materials and then put a frame and shape together before we could go any further. We even got to test how good the shelters were, and we found out that some were definitely more waterproof than the others, but most of them were strong enough to stay standing if they were moved. The only thing we needed to work on improving was the size of some of them, because they were a bit crowded on the inside!
Some of us even made wood cookies when we were there, using pieces of wood and a saw. That was hard and some of us struggled at times because we hadn’t done it before, but we managed to make them by following the instructions carefully and ended up enjoying doing it quite a bit! It was a really fun session overall and we would definitely like to do something like this again in the future!
