For our final day, we completed one last activity before beginning our journey home.
The group headed out onto Llyn Padarn for a canoeing session, where they developed some impressive new skills in manoeuvring their canoes and working together on the water. Confidence has come a long way over the course of the week, and it really showed during this session.
We finished things off with a lively game of tag on the water, where Harlow and Emily expertly manoeuvred their way to victory - possibly with a slight detour outside the designated area!
It was a fantastic way to round off the week. Every member of Group 5 has been brilliant and should be extremely proud of themselves. It’s been a pleasure to spend the week exploring Snowdonia with them.
Danni, “Just do it!”
Today, we took on a coasteering challenge at Rhos Colyn (Anglesey).
We spent the session moving steadily along the cliff line, tackling low-level traverses, and working our way across the rock face. There was plenty of swimming involved too, as we travelled between sections of land, adapting to the conditions and supporting each other along the way.
For those up for it, the rock jumps were a highlight - different heights, plenty of nerves at the top, and some well-earned smiles at the bottom. The group also took on a zip line stretched between rock faces, as well as clip line climbing, which added another layer of challenge.
It was certainly the quietest minibus journey home of the week - we even had a couple of snores!
Harlow, “The zip line was so fun!”
Ed, “We got to jump in the water during coasteering and it was very fun!!”
Emily, “The jumping in was fun!”
Today’s adventures took us deep underground for an unforgettable experience at Rhiwbarch Slate Mine.
The day began with a unique journey across an underground pool by boat, setting the tone for an exciting and slightly mysterious exploration of the mine. Pupils then took on a thrilling zip wire across a vast mining chamber, showing great courage as they soared through the darkness.
The challenges continued with an abseil from level 4 down to level 3, where pupils demonstrated impressive bravery and trust in their equipment and instructors. This was followed by the water climb, which tested both determination and teamwork as everyone worked together to navigate the slippery ascent.
To finish the day, we made our way out of the mine via the air shaft - a real highlight that added a sense of adventure and achievement to the experience.
It has been another fantastic day filled with challenge, excitement and plenty of personal triumphs. The children continue to impress us with their resilience, teamwork and positive attitudes throughout every activity.
Quotes:
George, “Even though that was a bit scary for some people, everyone managed to face their fears, and all in all, it was a great day!”
Louis, “The abseiling was funky & breakfast was scrupdiddilyuptious.”
Today was an action-packed and unforgettable day here in Snowdonia, filled with challenge, teamwork and plenty of smiles.
Our morning took us to Lion Rock, where we tackled an exciting mass ascent across three pitches of climbing. The experience pushed everyone to step outside their comfort zones, showing determination, resilience and great encouragement for one another. It was fantastic to see confidence grow with every step upward, and the sense of achievement at the top was clear on every face.
In the afternoon, we headed to the Menai Strait for a very different kind of adventure. The children worked together to navigate rafts through the fast-flowing, tidal waters. This activity required strong communication and teamwork, as well as a bit of bravery! Despite the challenging conditions, everyone embraced the experience and had a brilliant time on the water.
Overall, it has been a day full of personal growth, teamwork and memorable moments. We’re incredibly proud of how all the children approached each activity with enthusiasm and positivity, and we’re looking forward to what tomorrow brings.
Today's quotes:
Danni, “Extremly fun!”
Mia, “Scary but fun! :)”
Welcome to Group 5...
Here is our group blog for the week.
Group members: Mr Street, Lilia G, Ivy, Danni, Mia R, Emily D, Harlow, George, Ed, Oliver H and Louis.
Everyone has arrived safely in Snowdonia and we’ve had a brilliant first day settling in. As soon as we got here, we headed straight to our rooms, got our beds made, and met our instructors for the week.
We didn’t hang around for long before getting stuck into our first activity at Llyn Padarn, where everyone had a go at rafting. After a bit of practice paddling (and a couple of accidental falls in along the way!), the group quickly grew in confidence. Before long, everyone had the chance to jump into the water—and the staff were so impressed with how many took on the challenge and embraced the cold!
After a busy afternoon, we returned to the centre for showers and a well-earned change of clothes, followed by a delicious dinner of pizza and wedges.
This evening, the groups are heading off in different directions: some will be taking part in nightline and team-building activities, others will be exploring Llanrug, and a few will be returning to Llyn Padarn for some orienteering.
A fantastic start to the week—everyone is in great spirits and already making the most of the experience!
