Group 8 - Mr McMullen

Group 8 - Teddy H, Harry B, Oliver H, Giovanni C, Nate M, Dylan H, Oliver B, Eva B, Yara B and Zuzanna M

Day 3

Our first activity of day 3 was High All Aboard. Children had to make their way up the high wooden pole using the blocks attached to climb. Once at the top, each member of the group had to stand up on the small, wobbly, wooden platform, being careful not to fall off.

Well done to Oliver B, Zuzanna, Teddy for being the last person standing on the platform in their group!

Our last activity of Blackwell was Indoor Climbing. To get the children warmed up, children had to traverse the whole way across the climbing wall, seeing how far they could get before stepping off. A special well done to Oliver B and Eva for making it all the way across without touching the floor!

Children then climbed vertically up the walls, two at a time, racing to see who could get to the top. A huge effort from everyone in Group 8 who all managed to get to the top of the first wall. Because of how confident the children were, they progressed on to the advanced wall where they showed incredible determination in climbing as high at they possibly could!

Day 2

Dual Zip line

With a full breakfast in their bellies, Group 8’s first activity of the day was the Dual Zip line. Children first had a go by themselves and then had fun having a race to the bottom with their partner! Special mention to Oliver H for encouraging members of the team who were a little hesitant at first to pick up the courage and give the zip line a go! The team showed great resilience!

Tree Trek

Once children had connected their harness, they had to navigate the obstacle course high up in the trees. This included crossing a wobbly wooden bridge, walking side ways across a tightrope, climbing across a net and finally a zip line. After children had familiarised themselves with the obstacle course, they put their senses to the test by completing it blindfolded! Well done to Eva, Zuzanna and Yara for great communication skills.

Laser Tag

Group 8’s third activity of the day was laser tag! Children split into a red team and a blue team with the only aim of eliminating the other team. After a few games of this, children played ‘Protect the President’ where each team had to choose a ‘president’ and stop that player from being eliminated. Well done to Harry who managed to survive by using excellent hiding skills!

Swimming

What better way to finish the day off with a relaxing dip in the on-site swimming pool filled with lots of inflatables!

Day 1

Abseiling

After learning how to put on their harnesses and helmets, Group 8 were ready for their first activity of the day: abseiling. Children learned the correct technique of safely abseiling down before making their way up to the top of the tower.

Archery

Once children had a few practise arrows, they had a little competition to see what team could score the highest points. Well done to Teddy, Oliver H and Harry who were the top scoring team with 35 points!

Fan descender

Group 8 should be incredibly proud of themselves - children climbed up the 10 metre wooden pole and jumped off the wobbly platform at the top. The further they fell, the faster the fan span as they descended to a soft landing. Children became increasingly confident on each go, even doing some fun poses on the way down!

Crate stack

Working in a pair, children had to carefully work together to balance as the stack of crates grew higher and higher. Here is the height each pair managed to get to:

Dylan and Nate: 14 crates

Eva and Yara: 11 crates

Teddy and Zuzanna: 17 (Joint highest score at Westacre)

Oliver B and Giovanni: 13 crates

Oliver H and Harry: 10 crates
